Recap of the first 2 days GinCup2021

After the warm up round at the Penha Longa Golf Resort went smooth, without any injuries or damages to the equipment it was time to get the competition on the way for 2021. The results of this little mountain grind in Estoril confirmed the expected leaderboard and nobody could imagine that anything surprising would happen.

Day1

Starting on the toughest track in GinCup history – WestcliffsGC – the race for the GinCup took some surprising turns. Everbody expected a head to head situation from the start between Chris and Pete. It was the irish man who looked like having a flat tire from the beginning while Chris was heading towards a start to finish win. The slow pace of the Oldtimerfrom the Island and the tragic performance of 6 other Competitors - leaving them with a shotcount over 100 shots – made space for some unexpected sprints towards the head of the field. Especially Biggi – the desert dropper, who is still working on his rule skills – used his chance to get himself in contention to make an impact in Gin Cup history. Another outstanding performance happened at the bottom of the field, where the former triple onion got off to a bumby ride and used his chance to set a new all time record low of 121 shots which will we hard to challenge.

Day2

Beat up by a hard fight on the first day but fired up and the eyes on the trophy the players were looking forward to a more relaxed round on day 2 with less rubber cacti to carry and less balls to be lost. Everybody expected Chris to continue his smooth roadtrip to keep the lead confident until the end. But maybe his outstanding headstart was the main problem that messed up his mindset and left him out there with little fuel in the tank when he put out a performance that left him with only 7 (of possible 18) points with some ugly trips to the gravel patch. Unfortunately, the wheels of the reigning champion also didn’t catch fire and left shanky Pete with only 4 points after day 2. While it was the organizer Robi that was aiming for an all time best score in for a GinCup Main event day, sitting level Par after 9 and carrying the lead comfortably home, Obi used his chance to confirm his performance of the first day and landed another second place performance with plenty of diarrhea days in the tank. After another wild GinCup Day we will lead us again into a nerve wracking race for the GinCupthat will be decided between Obi, Chris, Jan and Biggi. Meanwhile the race at the bottom will be maybe even more exciting. Four players can smell the onion and will give their all not to put this monkey on their back.
