GinCup 2021 in Portugal - Preview

GinCup2021 It has been a long year since the 2020 Edition in Spain saw Pete rising the GinCup trophy again, and that the host of the 2021 edition Jan Robi Brosius used with exquisite passion to get this years event precisely planned. The GinCup members are desperate to get on the plane to Portugal and get the warm up round under their belt. Next to the Race Track Circuito Estoril 10 of the members will test their skillset at the Penha Longa resort to get ready for the GinCup Main event that will take place from 6th to 8th of November 2021 around Lisbon. But how will the starting grid look like?

Pole Position As we all know there are only two names that can be found on the GinCup trophy – Pete & PJ. So it would be the obvious that those two champions will be the ones that will fight it out another time and show their magnificent skills to have the honor to carry home the most wanted trophy in amateur sports. But the preparation and the year past went in completely opposite directions for those two elite athletes. As far as rumors can be trusted both had a similar purpose of life in the past months: to role out the hose and fixing some holes. But they seem to have interpreted that differently. While destiny wanted Pete to have plenty of time to take his golf game to another level, PJ invested his time in work and moving the Forneby Farm to a new location. This will make Pete the absolute favorite to defend his title in Lisbon.

The Pursuer Right behind the starting row there are mainly three contenders that realistically can get a hand on the trophy. TheWorker - With Chris being still the most golfing person in the western hemisphere he is clearly one to be in the small circle of potential winners of a GinCup main event. TheNicest - Robi is clearly one of the most consistent members of the group. His role as a host and his weakness of being very soft hearted and gentle minded might let him trip again. TheDesperateOne – After at least 30 pro lessons and 10+ golf vacations Obi must be named in the spot to play with the big boys. He never could fulfill his potential for three consecutive days. But if he ever does, he will be up there to lift the Cup.

The Pit Lane Sitting in the pit lane are 5 more GinCuppers that have all sorts of troubleshooting to deal with. Mulles might be in the best technical situation to make a surprise run and scare the leaders. His quick rise in the game of golf calmed down a bit and you can tell that the typical question marks are also getting in his head. Jerome was in a comfortable seat and seemed never in doubt to get close to a smelly onion experience. But other events kept on hitting him right and left. This combined with his passion for wild pigs will get him in with little golf time spend to be in a decent shape.

Tim had basically all 4 wheels coming off after the birth of his second daughter. Little time spend on the golf course combined with starting to work with the “onion maker” GolfPro Harry let his Handicap skyrocket. He will try to fix things. But most screws are still loose. Bob enjoyed a year without having to deal with all sorts of vegetable comparisons. He welcomed his second son and got back to potatoes, drugs and rock n ́roll. If he makes a good start from the pit lane he might be out of trouble quickly. Is he already ready for some overtaking maneuvers? Robert seems to like the smell of onion. Witnesses claim he already painted one on his racecar. The newlywed is so relaxed that he might wait in the pit lane in shorts for a while and see the others crash before he drives past.

The Spectators Jan Solms - who is back home in SA. After he finished his doctoral thesis in geography, with the topic “Bermuda triangle – you can never escape” he is now working on his masters degree as a Jägermeister. We can’t wait to have you back. Jan Paffenholz - who is our new member for the 2022 edition. It was the pure love that Roberts Wedding spread in our hearts and reminded us that there is a piece missing to make us complete. It didn’t need a minute to agree that Jan is the one that will get a shot on the onion. Welcome our friend. You will be part of the legend.
