After positions didn’t really change throughout the 2nd day of competition goals were clear for the deciding stretch of the GinCup 2020.
The first flight took of at 10:00 a.m. - only one thought in mind - how to avoid the onion, looking at a whole year ahead, asking yourself what went wrong. And while Bob looked like he could not avoid the pain for a fourth time, results developed differently...
Flight two got on the way at 10:10 a.m. - Robi, Tim and Biggi had the clear idea to interfere in the race of the leaders and win the race who decides where the next GinCup will take place. But they had to catch Obi who was sitting with a comfortable lead in fourth position and would have had the honor to pick the new destination.
The leaders flight released the first drive at 10:20 a.m. - Pete had a nice point cushion, but PJ and Chris were ready for the chase while Obi needed help from the rest of the field to make a move.
Early in the round the hopes of the second flight to make a run for the top bursted like a bubble. It was an average performance that saw Jan alias Robi ending in fourth place - taking the GinCup to Portugal in 2021.
The leading flight put on a very solid performance with PJ playing his heart out to win the day. Also Chris won his match against Pete, but it was just not enough for them to take on Pete on their own.
The most experienced player with the most discipline throughout the three days and the most practice effort put in didn‘t disappoint. Pete is back on the top. The champion of 2017 recovered well from last years disappointment and reclaimed the crown with a late entry into GC2020.
One exclusion had to be made talking about the solid performance in the leading flight. - Obi - the Grasshopper from Reckange Mess messed it up once more on day 3. The on course beer tactic didn’t pay off over three days and got him to a tied last place on the last day of competition seeing him melting like a chocolate bunny in the sun.
Things developed tragically in the Onion flight. The lead that Robert build up throughout the first 36 holes shouldn’t be enough. Even after a Bee attack on Bob, Mulles and him used all their experience and left the Rookie from Dudelange exhausted when the final hole got over the finish line.
After the GinCup is before the GinCup. Never stop practicing - never stop believing. We are back in Portugal 2021.
